This three-hour course is designed to meet your needs for education in the area most requested by radiation therapy professionals - patient positioning and immobilization.

The workshop offers a comprehensive overview of patient positioning an immobilization - from its history, to its importance for today’s treatment techniques, to workable solutions using a variety of devices and techniques.

After this seminar participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the technical difficulties in localization of target volume
  • Determine the importance of the geometric relationship between the patient and the radiation beam as it is applied in three dimensions
  • Understand the importance of precise positioning and the need for daily reproduction
  • Appreciate the history of patient fixation methods and their impact on today’s techniques
  • Recognize each of the current positioning methods their strengths and limitations
  • Determine the appropriate immobilization technique for each anatomical area
  • Recognize strengths and limitations of each technique and their applications to simple intermediate and complex treatments
